Section 4
Read
through the prompt below and write about it. Show me your understanding of the chapter. Spend time
letting me know all of your thoughts. Use textual evidence to prove
your ideas as well. Make sure you have a beginning, a middle, and an
end.
Choose one of the chapters in section four that made an impact on you. Avoid the chapters you were assigned; instead, choose one that you learned about through your student teacher. Discuss the impact the chapter had on you. Think about how it connects to you and your life. Think about how it may impact your future. Think about how it can influence others as well.
I picked chapter 51 cause I believe kalvin did a very nice job on presenting the chapter he was really into it and looked like he cared. This chapter is about people who think they are too good to go to certain jobs like being a construction worker or a burger flipper at McDs. People all look at themselves as they think they are to good for certain jobs and they think they need the higher up jobs so they sit at home waiting for one of the better jobs to call and when they don't they get all sad. Well people there are many jobs out there that are open to nearly anyone you just have to be willing to work rather then type at a computer get up of your high horse and do something. There are jobs to be done that need hard workers not suit and tie people if you want one of those suit and tie jobs you may be waiting a while so rather then waiting get up and get a ok job and when they call quit from that worse job. For all you people who are sitting at home saying there are no jobs get off your butt and go flip burgers at McDs they will hire almost anyone.
ReplyDeleteChapter 51 impacted me the most out of all the chapters. Personally, I've been in the situation that Randy was in. Randy believed he was to good to work in a strawberry field while I believed I was to good to shingle houses. I thought shingling houses was a job for illegal immigrants. The labor that you put into shingling a house is very strenuous and tiring. Then my boss told me that shingling isn't something he enjoys but it's something you have to do every now and then.
ReplyDeleteThis chapter can influence others as well. There are many people who don't want to work but want to have a lot of money. In order to get somewhere in life you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Once I got that through my head, my boss was very pleased with the way I worked. This lesson not only helped me this summer, but it will help me in the future as well. Now I know that with every job you will have to work your way up to being the boss and that everything is not going to be given to you.
Chapter 33, I chose chapter 33 for this blog because its about how you should't treat symptoms because you will never see a change and if you keep treating the symptoms they will always come back, he dated a girl who was thousands of dollars in debt, he noticed how stressed she was. She had been going to yoga classes and she claims that it helped her stress but the stress was just a symptom and the debt was the real problem if she wanted any change she would have to fix her debt problem, Randy suggested that she gets a job and works on tuesday nights to get some extra money to pay off her debt so she could live stress free again. This could effect my future because i learned that treating symptoms isn't any use and it will always come back. This connects to my life because I have problems and instead of dealing with the source or the disease i always try to fix something that comes with it and it never goes away i can use this life lesson everyday. This could also change my life in the future, i i where to get a disease i could make the best of it and treat the disease and think less about the symptoms because they will always come back and you wont get anywhere if you don't remove the source.
ReplyDeleteChapter 51 - No Job Is Beneath You
ReplyDeleteJust like the title says, any job you can have doesn't really define you as a person. You could be walking down a street and a famous doctor walks by or a man who worked in a grocery store all his life walks down. You wouldn't but them beneath you because you don't know their profession.
Sometimes when people first start the job, they are already imagining what it would be like to be a manger and then they get distracted from their work and lose efficiency which then makes it harder for them to get higher in the levels of their job. I think that today you should be happy that you got a job at all, some people are not able to get jobs in places because of the economy there.
Chapter 37
ReplyDeleteWhen Chloe is old enough, Randy will have the talk with her. "when it comes to men who are romantically interested in you, it's simple, just ignore everything they and only pay attention to what they do." What does means is they can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk? If the boys are just saying stuff to a girl just to make her happy, that isn't right! Girls need to know when the boy's actually mean something, and not just say it to get romantic. I personally know a lot of boys, and sadly enough, I was one of those boys, but I figured out the hard way you can't do that. Boys don't really know what women fell truly inside, we manipulate their hearts so much, that they just want to end their lives. I know this because, well I done this in the past, and let me tell you, karma comes back to haunt you. One can not just simply talk their way with a girl, unless the girl doesn't see the true side of the boy. more than half of boys want one thing,(I'll let you figure that out.) We don't know when to stop so called (loving) the girl. We think we love them, but most of the time, we don't, and girls know that. Girls nowadays are getting smarter, and more protective and on their toes because of us boys. So the next time you talk to a boy ladies, ask yourself, is he just a talker, or does he actually mean what he says?
I am doing chapter 40. I choose this chapter because I can really relate it to my life. I say this because in this chapter Randy is in front of an audience and he smashes a VCR. Randy was teaching a class at the University in Virginia and he was always saying how people make things that frustrate people. He brought in a VCR because they are very frustrating to look at the manual and understand them. He then took a sledgehammer and destroyed it. He said "students we don't wan to create things that make people made and destroy them, we what to make things that people understand and will like." This relates to me because I am not a technician guy and when we switched from Direct TV to Dish (Hopper), that confused me. I say this because there was like a 4 foot tall man and he came in and had the thing set up in like 10 minutes. I don't think I have ever seen somebodies hands move so fast on a remote. Then he tried explaining it to me and I maybe understood half of it. I tell you what, man can that guy work a remote. I mean the remote has like 60 some buttons on it an he used them all within 10 seconds. This impacts me because I realize I will never be that good at technology. It impacts others because they got impressed by the dish man or Randy maybe because of how they persuaded people, or how fast they could do something.
ReplyDeleteThe one chapter that I could really relate to was chapter 32 "Don't Complain, Just Work Harder". This chapter really made me realize how much people complain about stuff. People especially complain when they have to do manual labor which sometimes is the only way to do something. One motto I always live by is work smarter not harder which basically means do the work but do it the smart way. This chapter made me realize even more how unproductive our generation is, nobody wants to do actual work, everyone is looking for the easy way out. Like Randy said if we spent the same effort we did complain and actual did the task it would get done so much faster. This chapter hopefully made a really big impact on other people because its a motto to like by "Don't complain just work harder."
ReplyDeleteChapter 43
ReplyDeleteI choose The Friday Night Solution. This chapter is about hard work. Randy got his tenure a whole year soon then normal. Randy said the best was is the long was and the long way is hard work. I could relate to what Randy was saying because,I agree with Randy, in my life I work hard. I have to go to school. Then when that is finally over at the end of the day I can go work. I work hard at home and my jobs and don't take short cuts because then I would have to do it again because it would not work. Like Randy if any one calls me and ask for something I go help and usually never get done until around 10 o'clock at night. That good because I know that I have a good reputation for the hard work and being reliable and learning so much at my jobs that some day people will hire me or better yet I could hire them and teach then all the things I have learned and the value of hard work.
In chapter 34 it talks about how people worry to much about what other people think about them. This is not the right way to live because if you to worried about what they think then you won't even be happy according to Randy's words. 33% of people do not function right when certan things are about things. This kinda does connect to my life cause i can see people that aren't them selves and they just do ceartin things just to fit in. I honestly don't think this is right and i think it is terrible because that just like lieing about who you really are. And lieing is also not okay. Randy does not like lieing at all and neither do his parents but thats off topic. Next this will impact me in my future because i will never lie about who i really am. No matter how pretty the girl is. I will not be fake and pretend to be someone im not. This can help other people because this will help you find someone that you really like and don't have to be scared around. You can be comfortable and don't have to worry about what they think about you
ReplyDelete34.) Don't Obsess Over What People Think
ReplyDeleteToo many people wake up in the morning and worry about what other people are going to say, and enough is enough. I gave up a long time ago what others think of me, and I've been happier then. I have a new outlook on the act, dress, and feel. I act in ways that benefit me, without worrying what others will think. I dress to feel good about myself in the clothes I put on, not so others can look at me and worry me. I feel better about myself than I have in a long time. I can wake up on a bad hair day and still have a good day. I tell people how I feel the first time, so they can know what I am thinking. Telling people what you think, most of the time, has a sudden defensive reaction from the other person. I try my best to never be rude, and always keep the other person in mind when speaking. I would like to think I am in Randy's 33% range.
In chapter 32 I fell that I can relate to this chapter in many ways. When I first heard about this chapter I thought of myself right way because it kind of related to me. In school I am not the brightest kid in our class so to say I have a hard time getting stuff done and learn I have had this disorder from when I was in elementary. Even I know that I was not going to get the attention I need at Beckman because you have to be smart to go there and I was lacking that from the other students but I did not complain about it I work hard and tried to get stuff done on my own but it did not work. At the beginning of my second grade year I went MV I really did not know anyone at MV. At that time I had a really good teach she helped me and she know I needed help so I had went into a room with another teacher so she could help me,but I was mad that I could not be with my no friends that I made so I did not complain I just did my work. I had this help until end of 8th grade year. Now I off of help and can do every thing on my own. Like in chapter 32 how Randy was caring boxes down stairs and the trucked backed into him and he fell down the stairs he got back up and kept on carrying boxes. Like me when I had my learning disorder is like when Randy fell down the stairs he had to get back up and thats what I did by working hard and not complain like Randy did.
ReplyDeleteChapter 33 "Treat the Disease, Not the symptom" left the biggest impact on me out of all the selected chapters. Randy's girlfriend's symptom was stress but the disease was the debt that she was in, and the stress wasn't going away until the debt was gone. After reading this chapter, I will now look at what is causing the smaller problems that I have before I try to fix the small problem. I will just basically look at the big picture before doing anything. I think this will impact others because it doesn't matter if it is stress, being tired, or any other symptom, you can't just have a quick 5 Hour Energy fix and hope the fixes the problem. This will show people if you are tired, get more sleep. If you are stressed, find out why and fix it. Fixing problems is just as easy as looking at the big picture.
