Prep for "Letter from Birmingham Jail"

Andrew Carnegie once said, "The men who have succeeded are men who have chosen one line and stuck to it. "

Discuss what this quotation means. Then think about an issue you feel strongly about; discuss what that issue is and why you feel that way. How far would you go to support your convictions? Explain your thoughts completely.

Prep for "Armistice"

Countess of Blessington stated, “Prejudices are the chains forged by ignorance to keep men apart.”
In a well-written blog, discuss what you believe is the meaning of quotation? If you don't know what words mean, look them up so you can figure out what the Countess is talking about.  Then, in your blog, discuss how her quotation fits in with historical events before and during our lifetimes.  Make sure you are responding with how those events fit... avoid listing.

A Raisin in the Sun: Act 1 writing prompt

A Raisin in the Sun: Act 1 writing prompt

After you finish listening to Act 1 from the play, you will need to respond to the question below. Each of your responses should contain the following elements: argument (MUST use textual evidence that proves that your choice is the best), counter-argument (an argument someone on the opposite choice of yours would have against your idea), & a refutation (proof for why the other side is wrong with their choice - MUST use textual evidence.)  This must be at least 8 sentences in length.

Throughout Act I, there is a great deal of debate over how to spend the life insurance money. Mama would like to use it in order to buy a house while Walter tries to persuade her to invest in a liquor store. In your opinion, would the house or the liquor store be the sounder investment? Why? Explain.
